Description of Riding & Boarding Facilities |
Willowbrook Riding Club occupies forty acres in the west-center of the Coachella Valley. Just minutes north of the Interstate 10 freeway, Willowbrook is central yet surrounded by undeveloped land and natural desert trails. The boarding facilities and arenas are contained within a twelve-acre area; a bridle path circles the fenced portion of the property. Much of the area is grassed, and contains several hundred trees, creating a setting where equestrians can enjoy riding in a visually pleasing atmosphere. And for those who prefer to ride in the shade, we have a new arena canopy.
The temperature at Willowbrook is on average about 8 degrees cooler than Palm Springs, it is much less humid, and often has a breeze. Although we have more wind than the rest of the valley, it helps keep us cooler and less troubled by flies. We also have almost a hour more summer sunlight than Palm Springs because the sun doesn't set behind a mountain. The view of the mountains to the west is quite spectacular. Willowbrook offers full boarding in a variety of sizes of pipe corrals; all feature full-width shaders, and automatic waterers (the center gets its water from a deep well on the property). Barn stalls with or without runs are also available. Although we cater to show riders, we are surrounded by natural desert trails for those who enjoy a change of pace from the show arena. Show competitors have full use of two lighted arenas and jumps. We are hosts to Saddle Series Horse Shows -- the largest junior/amateur Hunter and Western shows in the south-central region: Saddle Series seven shows run from October to May every year. We offer training for horses and riders from beginner to advanced in Hunter and Jumper disciplines, as well as for recreational riding.

Willowbrook offers lessons for beginner to advanced in Hunter,
Jumper, Western, and English disciplines.
Individual lesson
are typically
one half to one hour long (instructor and one student), and may be taken
once or several
times per week by appointment on weekdays and weekends. Group lessons may be
60 to 90 minutes long: group lesson packages and clinics are
available to suit individual riders' needs and skill levels. (See also our Charter/Home school and Children's Day Camp pages.) We supply horses and tack, and, initially,
helmets and spurs, although we encourage you to eventually purchase
your own.
For beginners, we teach horsemanship from the ground up in accordance with guide-lines and lessons based on the California State Horseman's Association training system. Our aim is to teach the proper way to groom, lead, bridle, saddle, and care for a horse, in addition to riding safely and well either on the trail or in the show arena. For those who aspire to show in competition at Saddle Series, we have a show team: members learn in both individual and group lessons how to prepare for and compete in a horse show (bathing, grooming, and preparing a horse, cleaning and polishing tack, trail competition, showmanship in the arena, proper attire, classes to enter, what the judges are looking for, etc.).
Gift certificates for lessons are available for those who wish to give something a little different to a special person. For instructor profiles and price details see: Riding Instruction at Willowbrook Give us a call, come out for a visit, and we'll show you around. |
At Willowbrook we raise, train and develop
horses for sale and lease; we are also a show and lesson facility,
hence we cater to students and boarders who train and compete in the show arena. Our outside facilities all feature full-width shaders, and automatic waterers (the center gets its water from a deep
well on the property). We also have grass paddocks. Our barn stalls are available with or without runs.
Turnouts on grass are also available. Monthly
board rates include lessons and/or turnouts and vary with the type of corral or barn stall.
Full boarding includes cleaning and feeding twice daily with Bermuda grass and/or alfalfa hay. Dietary supplements may be arranged if necessary. Boarders will find ample parking and unlimited access to the property. The community tack rooms contain individually-designated areas for tack storage.
Boarders have use of the arenas and facilities
which include the main show arena, a covered arena, two practice arenas, a beginner
arena, a round
pen, and the bridle path which runs around the property. Riders may also choose to
exit the
main facility and ride the surrounding trails.
